The Office, which is the brainchild of Ricky Gervais, first aired in the United Kingdom via the BBC. The series, which starred Gervais as the office manager (named David Brent), only lasted for two seasons. Each season consisted of 6 episodes. In addition to the seasons, which aired on BBC Two, there were two Christmas specials that aired on BBC One. It ran from July, 2001, through December, 2003.

The Office Comes to the U.S.

The United States' offering of the show was originally aired by NBC in 2005. Though the premise is the same as its UK counterpart, the names of the characters have been changed. Some US episodes contain scenes similar to those included in the UK version. Obviously, the US version has expanded on the original series quite a bit as there are several more seasons and episodes. Further, there has been more character development - more characters developed.
